Zumba is a fantastic fitness system that combines energetic dance steps and upbeat Latin-inspired beats to offer participants a full-body workout.

First developed by fitness guru Beto Perez, Zumba (pronounced Zoom-bah) quickly gained in popularity and the trend spread throughout Latin America to north America and beyond. Since its first appearance on the fitness scene in the late 1990s, Perez has seen countless people take an interest in the program and integrate the routines into assorted classes and workshops. Today, there are over 30,000 licensed Zumba instructors and the addition of a new Zumba book makes it even easier to join the program.

Zumba, The Book

Written by Beto Perez and Maggie Greenwood-Robinson, PhD (The Biggest Loser Fitness Program,) Zumba takes us from Beto Perez's early years, when he developed a love of dance, to his career as a fitness instructor and the events that led to the creation of Zumba. Not only does he guide audiences through each movement sequence, explaining how the moves benefit the body and increase fitness levels, Perez also offers advice and encouragement.

Every book comes with inspiring testimonials from people whose lives and health situations have improved due to Zumba; a 5-Day Express Diet weight loss program; a 14-day meal plan complete with mouth-watering recipes; safety tips for working out at home; and photographs clearly illustrating each move. An exclusive Zumba fitness DVD containing detailed instructions for the basic moves and 60 minutes of energizing Latin-inspired music help you get started with the program.

About Fitness Guru Beto Perez

Alberto "Beto" Perez began his career as a fitness instructor and choreographer in Cali, Columbia, before going on to create Zumba out of necessity: one day, having forgotten to bring along his traditional aerobic music, Perez used salsa and meringue tapes to teach one of his classes, and Zumba was born.

Perez eventually moved to Miami in pursuit of the American Dream. His charismatic personality and fun workout style soon seduced American audiences and in 2001, entrepreneurs took an interest in Perez and Zumba Fitness was formed.
